The GATRA clients that I deal with are so freaking demanding. I somehow have to kiss their asses. If I don’t, they can call and tell them I cannot ride them. This is totally bullshit. These are people that are getting free rides to the Methadone clinic, dialysis centers and medical appointments. They get a little greedy! It is so wrong!

One client I used to pick up, one day demaded that I drive fast to her fat ass to her clinic and get her an iced coffee. I didn’t drive fast or get her an iced coffee. It isn’t in my mandate to do. She got mad, so she calls up the boss and tells her that I was speeding. Which was totally bullshit. Unfortunately, the owner who doesn’t back up her drivers believes the client. Now that is a load of bullshit. I hate to say this about this woman, she has no sense of honor to her employees, but to the allmighty dollar.

But the really screwed up thing is the company that gives us the work really wants to strip the company of all the work. So she is kissing the clients ass. Totally, wrong. Without the GATRA, this company could go under. Maybe, they need to loose everything and start over again. But nonetheless, GATRA clients have carte blanc to do anything they want.

Things never change they just get worse and worse…

In all the years of being a driver, last night, this one dispatcher/driver fucked me over royally. He has his little pets or as I call them ‘bitches’. When my number came up for a decent fare, he would give it to me and then take it away from me at the last second. Really unfair! I didn’t make that great of money last night. But when he ‘barked at me to get another driver, I told him no and to send someone else. I am not here to fetch someone who doesn’t appreciate what I do. I actually told the supervisor of what happend last night and he was amazed that I told him ahead of time that he was going to pull this shit. Well this guy was warned if he does it again tonight with me, there will be problems for him.

The owner who knew this was happening, hasn’t made an attempt to rectify this situation, I am dealing with this on my own and she is supposed be watching the drivers back and notice any discrepencies in the day to day operations. But she isn’t.

Well it’s been actually seven months since I started working at the company. OMFG, this place is so over dramatic. That it needs a in-house therapist.

The owner, who I do have the utmost respect for. Just doesn’t really understand the industry itself. Even though her soon to be ex-husband handled all the day to day operation. She just really didn’t get her feet actually wet. She says she has an open door policy. Not really at all. I wanted to talk to her regarding something that happend. But she blew me off. Talk about her ‘open door’ policy. Her door is locked and no one can go in and see her about stuff. Great management skills.

Drivers. The drivers are somewhat… I mean bitches… They bitch about the smallest things. OMFG, they are grown men and women that worry about things that are so juvenile. We got people who have problems like a driver whose wife left him after 17 years of marriage. Gee, I wonder why? The guy is a drug addict. Then we have a guy who drinks little nips of whiskey in the taxicab. (Liner note: this guy was finally terminated after the owner smelled whiskey on his breath). Then all the drivers feel like they are getting ‘fucked’ over. Well they are getting fucked over due to the fact they are not doing their jobs and I am cleaning up. I come to work prepared and ready to work. The owner respects me for my Protestant Work Ethic.  Then there is the “Walrus”. A old trucker and member of the Teamsters. Who complains about everyone — especially me. I just keep to myself and do my job. Period… He spread this rumour that me and this female driver were messing around in the back of her taxicab one night. Total lie. First she was in a 11 year relationship with 2 little ones. And second, we were actually talking in her cab one night due to it was raining and she was worried about stuff. I just calmed her down and talked to her as a normal person. The Walrus, was fired due to his constant verbal diaherria. That was maybe about 2 months ago. He begged for his job back. The owner gave him his job back. That was a stupid mistake. Now that he is back and now working as driver and a dispatcher, all of our lives are a living hell. The owner unfortunately has her hands tied, due to the fact that 4 dispatchers have quit or got fired. So in a way she is scraping the bottom of the barrel. The Walrus has his favorite driver that he give primo jobs to. But not anymore. He might be getting his walking papers.

Then the dispatchers, they are a real piece of work. We got the one I call Laverne. She was the one I started working with when I joined the operation back in September. She and I had a mutual respect for each other. I always knew that she would be getting tired. By the time 10pm would roll around her voice would sound like Penny Marshall’s classic character Laverne DeFazio from Laverne & Shirley. Even though she was there for almost 2 years, she had the tendancy of forgetting where drivers were clearing and crisscross them. It was okay at first. But I pulled her aside and helped her get better in the logistical part of this job. About a month ago, she was sick and then never came back. No one has seen her.  Then there is the Chunky Cheerleader. Nice as pie, but ignorant as hell. She thinks she is all so fab. No one is perfect. Especially her. Drivers can’t take her seriously, due to her whiny, cheerleader like voice that is like nails on a chalkboard. One night a customer asked me, how old the dispatcher was I said about mid 30s. The customer though she was 12. Now that is funny as shit. But her level of ignorance is a bit too much these days. We got a new hire and she is just treating him with such disregard and disrespect at every turn. You can’t do that. Then last night she tried to pull that with me. But I called her on the phone and put her in her place without costing me to go home.

She has to remember, it’s the money that we generate that pays her wages. So she should be really kissing our asses instead of busting our chops for such stupid ass crap.

Seven months, problems galore. More bullshit. I just try to stay under the radar and do my job. End of Story…

Last week

Last week, I pick this couple up. Normal Saturday night. But not really, it was the female’s birthday. A special moment in anyone’s life, being a year older. But she was crying her eyes out. Her boyfriend, or should I say, “a worthless piece of crap” was making the situation worse, by wanting to go out to another bar and get more drunk. She is an emotional train wreck, or to be more modern “a hot mess”. Is still crying her eyes out and wanting to go home and sleep. I really don’t blame her. But the guy, OMFG! How anal can he be. This is her special day and you are being a real asshole. He isn’t consoling her in her moment of weakness, all he wants to do is get more drunk. WTF! Sometimes, I feel that certain people don’t deserve to be in relationship.

I am no Oprah or Dr. Phil, but some people just don’t realize being in a relationship expert. But if you have a significant other that is in emotional distress, attend to his or her needs and put yours on the backburner. Sometimes I feel like guys actually should take a course on dating 101. But nonetheless, I did the right thing by handing her a napkin so she could wipe her eyes and actually stop the mascara from running more than it was at the time.

The one true word: Believing!

I know for a fact that, I believe in myself. All my life, people have judged me and say: “You can’t do that. You too weak and feeble-minded!”

I like to prove people wrong all the time! About 11 years ago, I was working a dead end job at a pizza joint in Providence, RI. My landlord, Jack Bandoni, who owned a taxicab noticed I knew my streets better than him and really good shortcuts. So he talked me into getting my hackney permit! I wasn’t really sure about it! But, I told myself, that I can do this.

After a month of getting all my information, I got my first hack permit. I started to work. My first day, I worked the State House side of the Providence Train Station. I just sat in my cab reading a book that I bought a week ago! First up on the stand after waiting 3 hours and getting nothing.

I am then outside my cab, a nice looking Forest Green 1997 Buick Park Avenue Limited Edition smoking a cigarette and having a sip of bottled water. This guy comes up to me and asks if I would bring him to New York. I am thinking New York Avenue in Providence. He said, actually New York City.

The inner voice was telling me, take the fucking job! Jack would be pleased as punch with this one job on the sheet!

So I told him it would be about 450.00 on the meter. He told me no problem at all! He hands me 6 $100.00 bills! So I call Jack on the cell phone to tell him that I would be back at the yard around 7:00 p.m. Due to the fact, I was bringing some guy to New York City!

While all this was happening, these old timers that I hardly even knew at the time, were trying to muscle in on my job! This one guy, who now is my real good friend. Tried to scam me. I caught him within 2 seconds of him opening his mouth!

Please Russ, I know you need to make money also. But for the love of god! Get back to your cab and leave me alone! I heard about you and I think you don’t want to feel my wrath!

From the first time, Russ, knew that he just met a 5’9″ expatriate who knew that he was trying to get fucked by some asshole! So he backed off!

I drove this guy to Park and Lexington in Manhattan and drove back. But the one thing I did was stop in Co-Op City and bought Bagels! OMFG, New York Bagels the second thing in my life that brings me to orgasm!

The Waiting Game

Right now I am waiting to hear about a licence I applied for! I really hate the waiting game. It makes me feel like I am standing on pins and needles waiting for them to say “You are okay to drive” or “You suck, try again motherfucker!”

Nonetheless, I applied. I did get approval from the City Police Chief, which is a plus in my book! In this State, meaning the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, I have no bad driving record or criminal violations. I am a totally different person here. I like that!

Let it be known, I have a feeling that I am going to get approved by the city! I do miss working as a driver. Shuttling people around for groceries, laundry and other inconsequential things. It makes my life a little easier! I know the money is a plus, but it makes my life a little happier when I am helping others….
